Editorial Policy

Portsmouth And is an independent news outlet covering Portsmouth and the surrounding area. This Editorial Policy explains the standards we follow and how you can raise a concern. If you have a question about our journalism, please contact us through our Contact page.

Our mission and independence

Our aim is to inform the people of Portsmouth with clear, accurate and useful reporting. Our editorial decisions are our own. We are not controlled by any political party, and we keep a clear line between our journalism and any advertising or commercial content.

Accuracy

We take accuracy seriously. Before we publish, we check facts against reliable sources, and we take care to report in context. If we are not sure about something, we say so, rather than present it as settled.

Sources and attribution

  • we aim to use reliable, named sources wherever possible;
  • we credit the sources of information, images and data where appropriate;
  • we do not copy other publishers’ work, and we write our own reports;
  • we respect copyright and only use images we are entitled to use.

Fairness and impartiality

We report in a fair and balanced way. Where a story involves different points of view, we try to reflect them, and we give people a reasonable opportunity to respond where that is appropriate.

Corrections and complaints

We want to get things right, and we correct genuine mistakes openly and promptly. If you believe something we have published is inaccurate or unfair, please contact us through our Contact page with the article title, the point you are raising and, if possible, a link. We will look into it and, where a correction is needed, we will update the article and note the change.

Use of artificial intelligence

We may use artificial intelligence tools to assist with tasks such as research, drafting, editing and translation. AI is a tool, not a replacement for our journalists. A human editor reviews our content before it is published, checks it for accuracy and fairness, and takes responsibility for it. We do not publish AI-generated content without human oversight.

Comments and community

We welcome comments from our readers, and we ask that they stay respectful and on topic. We moderate comments and may edit or remove anything that is offensive, unlawful or in breach of our Terms of Use. The views in comments are those of the people who post them, not of Portsmouth And.
